A New School Year Begins at KPLA

Hello, August! A New School Year Begins at KPLA
Hello, August! A New School Year Begins at KPLA

As the golden days of summer slowly fade, August welcomes us with a fresh sense of purpose. At KPLA, we are filled with excitement as we prepare to open our doors to another year of growth, learning, and joyful discovery. This month is all about transitioning well—mentally, emotionally, and practically—for both children and parents.

Whether you're new to our community or returning, we’re here to support your family through this exciting new season.

August Weather & New Rhythms

August still carries the warmth of summer, but subtle changes in the breeze and daylight hint that fall is around the corner. It’s a beautiful time to slow down, observe nature, and prepare our minds and bodies for the shift ahead.

Just as the seasons begin to change, so do our daily rhythms. Transitioning from the flexibility of summer to the structure of school can be a big adjustment—but also a wonderful opportunity to reset.

First Day of School: Wednesday, August 13 Mark your calendars!

Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 13th, and we can’t wait to welcome your child with smiles, routines, and a space filled with love and learning.

Please plan to arrive during our drop-off window from 7:30–8:00 AM so your child can settle in and start strong. Also, be sure that all materials and supplies fees have been submitted and everything on your child’s supply list is ready to go.

These small steps ensure a smooth and confident start!

Establishing Routines for Success Children thrive with structure. Starting small routines now will help ease the transition and create a sense of calm and confidence.

A few tips:

Start a regular bedtime and morning routine a week before school begins

Lay out clothes and pack bags the night before—this eliminates morning stress

Read together in the evenings to unwind and build connection

Talk about what school will be like—routines, new friends, and fun activities

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s consistency, connection, and comfort.

For Parents:

A Gentle Start to Your Day Too Back-to-school isn’t just a transition for kids—it’s one for you, too. Mornings can feel hectic but taking even a few minutes for yourself can set the tone for a better day.

Here are a few simple practices that make a big difference:

Pause for a deep breath before the day begins. Inhale peace, exhale pressure.  Say a quick prayer or offer a word of thanks for strength and guidance.  Speak a positive affirmation out loud: “Today, I choose peace. I am present for my child and for myself.”

Sip your coffee or tea in silence—even for two minutes. Let that moment be yours. Your energy shapes your child’s morning. When you center yourself first, everything else flows more smoothly.

 Creative Lunchbox Tip:

The Homemade Lunchables Hack Lunch can be fun and healthy—without being complicated. One of our favorite ideas is the DIY Lunchable! It’s colorful, kid-friendly, and gives little ones a sense of independence.

Try this combo in a bento-style box:

Cheese cubes

Rolled deli meat or hummus dip

Whole-grain crackers

Fresh fruit like grapes or apple slices

Baby carrots or cherry tomatoes

A small, sweet treat

Let your child help pick the items the night before—they’ll be more excited to eat what they helped prepare!

Quote of the Month

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new."

As we enter this new season, let’s move forward with hope, structure, and the belief that something beautiful is ahead—for our children and for ourselves.

We’re in This Together

August is more than a month—it’s a mindset. It’s about opening up to change, building fresh routines, and walking hand-in-hand into a brand new year. At KPLA, we are honored to be a part of your child’s journey, and we look forward to a year of laughter, learning, and lifelong memories.

Here’s to a peaceful, purposeful start to the school year.

Let’s make it amazing—together.

With love,

Your KPLA Team
